Jose Mourinho: After the footsteps of Del Bosque

Jose Mourinho can make more history at Real Madrid. Beyond the titles already won and which he can get, the Portuguese can become the second coach to stay longer on the bench at the Santiago Bernabeu stadiun. The first, Miguel Muñoz, was the Real Madrid coach for 16 seasons. A record that seems not to be at risk. After Muñoz there are a lot of important names to overtake: Di Stefano managed the white team 3 season, Beenhakker (4) and also Del Bosque (6).

On May 28, 2010 was made official the signing of Jose Mourinho by Real Madrid. Three days later, was introduced as new coach at a press conference in which he was accompanied by Jorge Valdano. Mourinho is therefore about to turn two years at the Bernabeu bench, despite the many rumors about his departure that have accompanied him almost from day one.

Those two years make him the more long-lived coach on the bench for Real Madrid since 2003, when Del Bosque was not renewed and Florentino Perez decided to put the team in the hands of Carlos Queiroz. The current Spanish national team coach has been a total of six seasons at the helm of white team, although in two of them acted as interim coach. A record that Mourinho could match if he fulfills the contract was made public on Tuesday.

Closer to the Portuguese coach remain other legends of Real Madrid, as Alfredo Di Stefano, Vujadin Boskov and Jose Villalonga (3 seasons), Leo Beenhakker, Miljan Miljanic, Francisco Bru and John B. Toshack (4). Ahead, only the aforementioned Del Bosque and Luis Molowny (6 seasons) and the legendary Miguel Muñoz, 14 of his 16 years without interruption, in the command of the white squad.
